Quaest survey: 54% approve President Lula’s approach to govern

The positive assessment of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (Workers’ Party) approach to governing Brazil increased from 50% to 54%, according to the Genial/Quaest survey released on Wednesday (10), compared to May. In the same vein, disapproval dropped from 47% to 43%. Those who didn’t know how to evaluate were 4% of the interviewees.   

In another question, the positive assessment of Lula’s administration rose and reached 36%. In the most recent survey, released on May 8, the rate of good or excellent was 33%. 

The document also showed that the negative assessment of the Workers’ Party government fell from 33% to 30%. The opinion that the administration is regular remained stable and decreased only 1 percentage point, from 31% to 30%. Those who didn’t know how to rate Lula’s government totaled 4%.

For these indices, the margin of error is two percentage points.

The company also broke down the data by region. The southeast region of Brazil is the only one of the country’s five regions in which Lula had an increase above the territory’s margin of error, which is three percentage points. His approval rating went from 26% to 31%. Negative ratings also fell significantly, dropping from 39% to 34%, and regular ratings fluctuated from 32% to 30%.

Among both men and women, the positive assessment of the government remained stable: from 32% to 34% and from 35% to 37%, respectively. Negative ratings remained stable among men (from 37% to 36%), but increased from 25% to 30% among women.

Among voters with a family income of up to two minimum wages – about US$ 261 in Brazil – approval rose from 62% to 69%, and disapproval dropped from 35% to 26%. The margin of error in this group is four percentage points.  

Among evangelicals, the disapproval rate is still the highest: 52% of interviewees disapprove of the Workers’ Party politician, compared to 42% who approve of him. Even so, the difference of 10 percentage points is the smallest since October last year and has been narrowing since February this year.

Among voters who concluded primary education, 65% think Lula is making a good administration compared to 60% in the previous survey. The disapproval rate fell from 37% to 30%.

A total of 2,000 voters aged 16 or over were interviewed between July 5 and 8 in 120 Brazilian municipalities. The confidence index is 95%.
